What is the history of McKellar Park?
The Highland Park Ratepayers Association's history says the Thomson family, the area's first settlers from 1817, were allotted roughly 400 acres from present-day Carling Avenue to the Ottawa River. Thomas Cole bought the estate in 1877 and it became the Highland View Dairy Farm.

The Byron Linear Tramway Park, which runs through McKellar Park, was largely a right-of-way of the Ottawa Electric Railway streetcar. Ottawa's annexation of the area from Nepean in 1949–50 led to many streets nearby being renamed.
Keep in mind. The first source describes the wider area that includes McKellar Park, not the neighbourhood alone.
